"My first Pink Floyd offering was more about the concept, and therefore, the realism/portrait aspect was less important. As a lifelong fan, I knew I would be revisiting these progressive psychedelic rockers numerous times in the future.
Floyd’s legendary stage show, coupled with an avant-garde approach to imagery and art, make them an extremely pleasurable and interesting subject to paint. I knew after the first one, the second one would have to be a reflective piece (hence portraying Roger and David in a contemporary state), lending itself to the loss of their beloved band member, Syd Barrett, whose tragic downfall reads like a work of fiction. If you’re unaware of his story, I recommend you research it as it was a tremendous source of inspiration for many of Pink Floyd's popular songs.
As for the concept of this piece, the division of the band and the rare feat of both Roger and David staying relevant was a perfect fit for creating my first true diptych piece. The rest of the concept punched me in the mouth when I sat down to watch the concert DVD Roger Waters: The Wall. Roger’s stage shows, visuals and accompanying documentary blew my mind so much I immediately watched it again the same evening. There are no words to express the engineering feat of this concert, so I’m not even going to try – I can only urge you watch it yourself." -Stickman
