"With this piece, I was looking to create a mid 70’s glam punk feel. Something that blurred the lines between sexy, edgy and even a bit trashy. The initial thought was hovering around the aesthetic of the New York Dolls or the early version of Twisted Sister, and a few other variations and directions came into the picture before The Runaways crossed my mind.
Due to the nature of my subject matter, I read every rock biography I can get my hands on, and it’s amazing how many time these “queens of noise” make an appearance in other people’s stories. Although these girls were assembled as the brain child of Kim Fowley, it was evident by the acceptance of their peers that these teen girls were no gimmick–they could play with the best of them. The company they kept, from Generation X to the Sex Pistols and even the Ramones, gave them instant street cred and forever etched them into punk royalty. Their music, look and attitude shattered barriers in the music world as they stormed on to the scene and created a Beatles like following in Japan.
The Runaways’ most commercially successful song, “Cherry Bomb”, brilliantly captured the look and feel for what I wanted to accomplish with this piece, so a visual interpretation of the song was a perfect fit." -Stickman
