The initial seed for this piece probably started the day I heard that the famous Viper Room on Sunset was closing its doors for good. This filled my head with thoughts of one of the most inspirational cities. This nostalgic feeling led me to contact some of my L.A. friends and plan a few things for a future visit.
A few days later, Josh Todd stepped on the stage at a concert and stated, “We’re Buckcherry from Los Angeles, California”. I decided right then and there, I needed a L.A. tribute – 30 seconds later this piece was completely conceptualized. Combining what I see in L.A. versus what a family may see was a fun way to approach this tribute. Some see L.A. as glamorous, for others its theme parks. For me, I’ve always enjoyed its edgier, grittier side. London and NYC give me punk vibes, in New Orleans it’s jazz, and of course country in Nashville, but if you ask my opinion, rock ‘n’ roll resides in Los Angeles. The lyric title fell into place just as easy. The entire inspiration of this piece (and frankly dozens more) could be summarized by the Eagles of Death Metal lyric, “I came to L.A. to be rock ‘n’ roll, along the way I had to sell my soul, I made some good friends that made me say…I really wannabe in L.A.
