"Everybody has that band or album that reminds them of summer – for me that band is RHCP and any album will suffice.
One of my earliest recollections of the Red Hot Chili Peppers dates back to 1989 when I won a junior high talent competition (don’t ask) and as a prize I was awarded an album of my choice. My choice was Mothers Milk and since they weren’t main stream yet, I had sent the social committee on a wild goose chase throughout the city (come to think of it, they never could locate it and I had to settle for give Me Convenience or Give Me Death by The Dead Kennedy’s – also a great LP).
I was very specific on what I wanted to portray in this piece, because as much of a lifelong fan of the band I am, it was actually Anthony’s biography titled Scar Tissue that propelled the feel of this piece. His life long struggle with addiction played a key part in the composition, and despite their many upbeat songs, I stayed true to the feeling and that dark place addiction often takes a person. The subsequent feeling of struggle and loneliness is hopefully seen in this piece, as well as the carefully chosen title." -Stickman
